IHY News Note #1
15 September 2004

Over the past few weeks you may have noticed that there have been some improvements and updates made to the IHY website. In doing so, the goal is to make the site more easy to navigate and to ensure that the information found is useful to you, the user.

  1. New Navigation
A few of the navigation "buttons" have been changed in order to make the individual sections more useful and to make navigation more simple. A site map will soon be added to the site explaining in detail what can be found under each section.
    "Support" became "Get involved"
"Gallery" moved to become part of "Resources"
    "For Scientists" became "IHY Science"

  2. Newsletter Archive
A newsletter archive has been added. This is where you will be able to view any current and past newsletter. In the future, rather than sending the newsletter through email, we will send a link through email which will point to the current the newsletter in the archive. This will avoid clogging up your emails with attachments and should improve dissemination. You will find the archive at the following URL:
    http://ihy2007.org/newsroom/newsletter.shtml

  3. Addition of IHY Science Coordination Database
We have now placed multiple links to the IHY Science Coordination Database you can access them through two sections: IHY Science and Get Involved. The URLs are below. We encourage everyone to sign up and make sure that their "observatories" are added to the list!
  4. IHY "Events" Page
Our "Events" page has been updated with scientific meetings throughout our fields of research. However, this update is not complete: please send notices of your upcoming meetings to ihy@ihy.gsfc.nasa.gov. We have introduced an icon-based classification system so you can be aware of the IHY-related activities at each meeting.

Additionally, we are attempting to identify at least one "IHY Contact" at each meeting. The IHY Contact is available to members of the scientific community who are interested in learning about IHY or participating in IHY. If you are going to attend a scientific meeting and are able to serve as an IHY Contact, please let us know.
