Dear IHY Community:
1. IHY Countdown: Are you ready?
There are 18 months left to plan for IHY. Whether your interest is
science, instrumentation, history or education, plans are underway for
a wide range of international activities. Information on IHY's
activities and preparations can be found in the "Get Involved" section
of the IHY website, ihy2007.org. Additionally, there are a number of
national planning activities taking place: please contact your
national coordinator for more information.
2. The IHY Coordinated Investigation Programme (CIP) system online and
ready for your input!
The IHY joint research campaigns will be facilitated through our
Coordinated Investigation Programmes (CIPs),
and the IHY-UK team has launched the new CIP online registration form.
If you have an idea or suggestion for
scientific research or activities to be performed during IHY, please
go to the site and enter the information as a
CIP. CIP proposals can include single- or multi-instrument
investigation, modeling studies, even studies of
synoptic data predating IHY. We will be using the results of these CIP
proposals to establish the science
activities for IHY in 2007-8.
The CIP registration page is at
http://www.ihy.rl.ac.uk/CIP_form.htm
There is no deadline for the entry of CIPs into the database, but we
hope to get a wide range of CIPs by the
end of 2005. CIPs can be modified and updated after submission.

5. IHY Newsletter Status
The IHY website has several resources to make the community aware of
IHY activities. We have a "Newsroom" section on our website for
updates on recent activities, the "Events" section of the site is a
comprehensive list of scientific meetings in space physics, IHY
activities, and other relevant activities. Additionally, we send out
information, such as this IHY News Note, to the IHYinfo email list.
We are pleased to announce that the IHY Newsletter is back by popular
demand! The News Notes (such as this message) are used as a means of
providing brief notices and rapid updates to the IHY community. The
IHY Newsletter will feature articles, discussions, and will provide a
forum to bring awareness of scientific, educational, or other IHY
planning activities. We extend our appreciation to K.S. "Bala"
Balasubramaniam (bala@nso.edu) of the National Solar Observatory for
his willingness to serve as the IHY Newsletter editor. We hope you
will continue to give him your earnest support.
