Registration and Abstracts

On the fiftieth anniversary of the International Geophysical Year (IGY) an international program of scientific collaboration will be conducted, focusing on fundamental global questions of Earth and space science, called the International Heliophysical Year (IHY). A workshop to discuss plans for the IHY was held February 16-18, 2005 in Boulder, Colorado.

Participation of the full science community was encouraged. Science discussions in each of the following broad areas included:

  • Cosmic Rays/Outer Heliosphere: Gary Zank, Eberhard Moebius
  • Atmospheres/Ionospheres/Magnetospheres (AIM): Tim Fuller-Rowell, Roger Smith, Howard Singer
  • Climate and Earth Atmosphere: Mark Baldwin, Drew Shindell, Fangqun Yu, Victor Fomichev
  • Solar/Inner heliosphere: Joan Burkepile, Leonard Strachan, Nancy Crooker

Travel to Boulder and the Workshop

The Meeting will be held at the Millennium Harvest House Hotel, located at 1345 28th St., in Boulder, Colorado. Most people travelling to the workshop will fly into the Denver International Airport (DEN), which is located about 40 miles Southeast of Boulder.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

The easiest way to get to Boulder from Denver International Airport is to take Route E470 travelling North for approximately 27 miles (Route E470 becomes Northwest Parkway West, then becomes South 96th Street).
Turn Right onto US-36 West, continue on US-36 West for 9 miles. US-36 West becomes 28th Street.

To get to the Best Western Boulder Inn, exit US-36 West at Baseline Road. Continue through the light past Baseline Road, and the Best Western Boulder Inn is right in front of you.

To get to the Millennium Hotel, travel on US-36 West past Baseline Road. Soon after US-36 West turns into 28th St., you will pass a stoplight at the intersection of Colorado Avenue and 28th St.
Continue on 28th St. past Colorado Avenue, the Millennium Hotel is on the left.
