Survey Information

Observations

    Providing Observations for WHI: Yes
    Observatory: SMEI, (STElab IPS)
Type of Observation: SMEI All-sky images
Coverage for WHI: As available UCSD processing of SMEI data
Observation Location for WHI: Earth-orbiting polar
Observation Plans for WHI: No special plans. To analyze SMEI data UCSD will need to process the data, and especially from SMEI camera 3 will need to put in place the new camera mask installed by the Air Force, tweak camera data analysis parameters and process these data, checking each stage along the way. To provide tomographic modeling from SMEI, UCSD must run a host of computer programs that remove zodiacal light, stars, aurora, and finally run the program that provides these tomographic analyses. If an error is discovered in the analysis, the process must begin again. No automatic system is yet available to do this. It takes roughly 3-4 man-months to process a month of data in the above fashion funded on soft money.
