  • The "Remote Sensing of the Inner Heliosphere Meeting" focusing on WHI and IHY science will be hosted by the University of Aberystwyth May 5-8 2009. All are invited to attend!

  • Second WHI Workshop scheduled for November 10 - 13, 2009. Please note the date change. More details coming soon.
  • IHY Officially came to a close on February 18, 2009. All efforts now focus on the production of scientific results and the transition to legacy activities.

  • WHI Special Session at the International Astronomical Union General Assembly in 2009
    The Joint Discussion 16: "IHY Global Campaign - Whole Heliosphere Interval" will be held during the IAU XXVII General Assembly, August 3 - 14 2009 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. All are welcome to submit abstracts beginning November 1.
  • The conveners of the Fall 2008 AGU session SH06: "The Quiet Sun - Results from the Current Solar Cycle Minimum" are interested in abstracts about WHI observations and results. Abstracts are due September 10. Abstract Submission
  • The WHI Team is also invited to participate in the AGU Session SA10: "Solar and solar wind control of planetary ionosphere during the declining phase of the solar cycle"
  • WHI Data and Model results are being posted in the WHI Data Directory and the WHI Modeling Directory
  • Please send us your WHI Data and Modeling summaries at your earliest convenience! Those not participating in the workshop can still benefit greatly from the data discussion to take place.

  • WHI Targeting Calendar online: A google-based calendar system has been implemented to provide updates on our observing targets.
  • COST 296 Joins WHI! The COST (European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research) 296 activity, "Mitigation of Ionospheric Effects on Radio Systems" will be joining WHI and will be participating in synoptic and targetted observations. Welcome COST 296!

  • Three new geospace campaigns have been added to the Targeted Observing Plans! Go to the Targeted Observing Plans page to learn more about the campaigns and determine whether your data or model are suited for these efforts.

    First Results of the Whole Heliosphere Interval
    This special session will provide a broad description of the heliosphere at solar minimum by showcasing early results of the WHI campaign. We invite contributions to this session from anyone involved in WHI observations, either targetted or synoptic, or modeling efforts.

    The WHI Data & Modeling Assessment Workshop will happen 25 - 29 August, 2008 in Boulder, CO. All WHI participants are welcome to attend - more information later!
December 2007
  • We now have our Targetted Observing Campaign plans on line - please take a look at the campaign details and determine whether you'd like to participate.
  • The number of WHI participants has surpassed 200 people! Please help us ensure that all of their science efforts have the maximum benefit. As we begin to populate the website participating observers & modelers, please consider whether there are any elements that would be beneficial to add to the campaign.
  • 15 December: WHI Special Session Proposal submitted for the IAU 2009 General Assembly. Thanks to our international organizing committee!
  • Nifty item: Sun-Earth Day 2008 is happening on the first day of WHI, and Solar Week is that week as well! Auspicious dates :)
November 2007
  • WHI continues to grow, and we are pleased that CAWSES, ULTIMA, and a number of Antarctic networks are joining! Additionally, a growing number of magnetospheric and ionospheric networks are participating, which is essential to complete the "extended impact."
October 2007
  • Emails were sent to community mailing lists to inform about WHI and its plans.
  • WHI website populated, observing plans are beginning to be submitted.
  • The science team is growing - thank you to everyone who is helping to spread the news!!
